Plastic thermoforming and Vacuumforming (or Vacuforming) are most common manufacturing processes. In the plastic thermoforming process, a pre-heated and moldable plastic sheet is formed to a specific shape in a mold and becomes a plastic product. Plastic cups and lids, plastic containers and separators, blister packaging, plastic clamshells, plastic trays and containers for food grade, and other plastic products like cosmetic packaging, bakery packaging and custom medical packaging are able to be manufactured by thermoforming and fit into many different applications.
Vacuumforming / Vacuforming is a simplified version of thermoforming. A heated plastic sheet is stretched onto a single surfaced mold and then, held against the mold using vacuum between the surface of mold and the plastic sheet. Most plastic packaging can be made by this vacuumforming process.
